Dear Americans,
amesie:
England + Wales + Scotland = Great Britain
Great Britain + Northern Ireland = The United Kingdom
The United Kingdom + The Republic of Ireland = The British Isles
In other news, apparently Americans don’t need a visa to study in Ireland. SWEET :D
SO necessary.
Also THIS COUNTRY = UNITED STATES…NOT America!

sorry to burst everyone’s coachella bubble, but this year’s lineup FUCKING SUCKS.
The only acts I’m remotely interested in seeing are Pavement, Yeasayer, Yo La Tengo, and Beach House, and they are scatter among the three days. There is no one day that I can justify as better than the others, because they all pretty much equally suck.

NERD ALERT
So excited because I just emailed the good fellows at Shapero Rare Books in London about five minutes ago in order to receive a copy of the translation of the Chinese characters that annotate the Ricci Map, now on display at the Library of Congress, and the map specialist already responded/sent it to me…! My roommate Rosa and I were grocery shopping (at the Watergate, where it must be done) and as we were going home we found all the roads blocked off in preparation for the presidential motorcade. All the little motorbike police and the presidential limo (complete with the little hood ornament flags) had already passed before I realized that I’d brought my new camera along, in anticipation of...

Before I packed for college the first time, I essentially dumped my room and then put things back by two criteria: stuff I thought I used a lot I was taking with me, and stuff I thought I used seasonally or occaisionally I put back into the crevices of my closet and dresser — everything else: chau! Now as I am packing again only 4 months later I find myself going through the same process,...

is having a skewed sense of decency, especially when it comes to clothing, or lack thereof. I am maybe too comfortable in too little clothing? I don’t think that wearing a bathing suit in public places is inappropriate (my mother pointed out to me today that maybe it is). At the same time, 70% of my wardrobe is comprised of things I can pretty much only wear to the beach (…). The rest of...

I don’t have the heart to tell her popular interpretations of the paintings.
It’s still meant to be beautiful! The beauty of women, femininity! The funny thing is, when presented with these interpretations, O’Keeffe claimed to have no idea, saying something like,”What are you talking about? I just paint flowers!” (not a real quote but along those lines, haha)
Language Barrier
Mrs. Petersen: What other language do you speak?
Me: Urdu
Mrs. Petersen: What?
Me: Urdu
Mrs. Petersen: What?

Hidden benefit of knowing another language!
Not only can you watch original content in that other language, but you have access to all the content in more languages you don’t know that have only been subtitled in your new second language! Hooray!
