has been awesome. Highlights of the past 48 hours:
-Most delicious $11 champagne and homemade coquito, Puerto Rican style eggnog.
-After an unusual, unexplainable and Steinbeck-ian series of events after midnight, ended up partying at the home of esteemed Colombian journalist Hollman Morris, documentarian of human rights abuse and civil war in Colombia and controversial Nieman Fellow denied visa entry to the US over alleged “sympathy towards guerrillas”. Little did I know when I shook his hand after he spoke to my documentary and journalism class Georgetown this past semester that I’d end up passing the early hours of the new year sitting on a very expensive leather couch listening to him and his wife sing out Caribbean big band classics.
-Delicious tacos with Roz and Rez and Arash and joyriding in Georgetown to Kanye
-Much quality time with JR and divine intervention to find a long lost guitar capo
-Upgrade to first class on flight to San Diego (ps — I’d never pay for it, it’s overrated), then blasting blink on the drive home
-BEAUTIFUL weather. Beautiful air. Beautiful dog.
-Watching old Super 8 footage of my mom’s family from the ’60s.
